Workshop
Learn oud making with luthier John Vergara
We have received many requests over the years to teach oud making workshops. While there are a plethora of workshops teaching guitar, and violin making, there is however nothing available for oud making in America. We are now teaching face to face oud making in the workshop, Lord of the Strings located in the beautiful Hudson Valley region of New York. When you learn from an experienced luthier you get all the experience, trial and error from the beginning, saving you years of painstaking mistakes. This also gives you a chance to immerse yourself in the art of luthiery and being surrounded by wood, tools and instruments.
Prior woodworking/instrument making experience and knowledge is needed. Before scheduling you will need to do a video conference interview with John prior to receiving approval for the booking.
The workshop will run for 2 weeks, 6 days a week, 8 to 9 hours daily. You should arrive the Sunday night before Monday. The second Saturday is the last day of the workshop.
The course includes making the bowl, neck, pegbox, soundboard, fingerboard, fitting pegs and setup. The instrument will be strung without finishing.
